A widower story appears to be central to the Facebook profile using the name Paul Muller. The account reportedly claimed to be a widowed man living in Berlin, Germany. Such a story can create sympathy and make the person appear emotionally ready for a new relationship. The profile may approach victims through friend requests and gradually develop romantic communication. Photographs reportedly associated with another person were allegedly used to support the identity. Once the victim becomes emotionally attached, financial requests may be introduced. These could involve travel, medical problems, family emergencies, or other temporary expenses. The scammer may promise repayment or an eventual meeting in person.
