This account reportedly approaches people through Instagram and presents itself under the name Liam Gonzalez, while claiming to be from North Carolina. The victim says the relationship continued for around two months, during which the account built trust through regular romantic communication. The situation became suspicious when the person allegedly wanted to deposit millions of dollars into the victim’s account. He then reportedly asked the victim to help pay what was described as a large tax bill, creating pressure to participate in the financial transaction. Promises involving unusually large amounts of money are often used to make victims believe they are about to receive a major financial benefit. The scammer may then introduce taxes, processing fees, transfer costs, or other charges that must supposedly be paid before the money can be released. The complainant recognized the warning signs before becoming further involved and believes the photographs may belong to an unrelated person whose identity was stolen.
