I didn’t realize I was dealing with a scam at first, and that’s exactly what makes this whole experience frustrating. The Facebook profile “James Bella” didn’t look obviously fake. It seemed like a normal account—a woman in a military uniform, a few posts, nothing that immediately raised suspicion. I accepted the request without thinking much about it. The conversation started casually and felt steady, almost controlled. It wasn’t overly aggressive or suspicious in the beginning, which made it easy to continue.

Over time, though, something started to feel off. The messages felt slightly unnatural, like they were carefully written rather than genuine. There were moments where the responses didn’t quite match what I said, and the conversation kept drifting toward emotional topics in a way that didn’t feel real. It wasn’t one big red flag—it was a buildup of small things that didn’t sit right. Then the tone shifted. The conversation slowly started leaning toward situations where help might be needed. It wasn’t direct at first, but it was obvious where it was heading. That’s when I stepped back and looked at everything more clearly.

Once I did that, the whole thing fell apart. The profile didn’t feel real anymore, the photos looked staged, and the interaction itself felt like something rehearsed. After checking further, it became clear that the images were stolen and the identity was fake. There was no “James Bella,” just someone pretending to be one. What bothers me the most is how calculated it all was—nothing rushed, nothing obvious, just a slow and deliberate attempt to build trust and pull me in. I didn’t lose money, but I can easily see how someone could if they didn’t stop and question it. In the moment, it doesn’t feel like a scam—it just feels like a normal conversation. But once you step back, you realize it was never real from the beginning.
