Reports :
I am writing this report to warn others about an online interaction I experienced with a man who introduced himself as?Michael Benjamin. I first came into contact with him through social media. At the beginning, he appeared to be a friendly and kind person. His profile showed photos of a middle-aged man with short grey hair, and he presented himself as a trustworthy professional. His messages were polite and respectful, which made it easy to believe that he was genuine.
After our first few conversations, he quickly began communicating with me every day. He told me personal stories about his life and claimed that he was working overseas. According to his story, his work required him to travel frequently, which explained why we could not meet in person. Over time, he tried to build a strong emotional connection with me. He would send caring messages, talk about trust, and sometimes speak about a future together.
At first, everything seemed normal, but after some time I began to notice certain warning signs. He avoided live video calls and often had excuses whenever I asked to speak face-to-face online. His messages also seemed very similar to scripts that I later learned are commonly used in online romance scams. Despite claiming to care deeply about me, he repeatedly shifted conversations toward financial difficulties and emergencies.
Eventually, he began asking for financial assistance. The reasons changed several times. In one situation, he said he needed help solving a problem related to his work overseas. In another conversation, he claimed that there were unexpected expenses that he could not access his own money to pay. He insisted that the situation was urgent and that I was the only person who could help him. This pressure made me uncomfortable and suspicious.
Because of these concerns, I decided to research his photos and the name he was using. During my search, I discovered that the same photos were appearing on multiple websites connected to?romance scam warnings. I also learned that scammers often steal pictures of real people and use them to create fake identities online. This discovery made me realize that the person I had been talking to might not actually be the man shown in the photographs.
Looking back, there were many clear warning signs: the fast emotional attachment, the constant messaging, the refusal to video call, and the repeated financial requests. These behaviors are typical patterns used in romance scams designed to manipulate victims emotionally before asking for money.
I am sharing this report to help others recognize similar situations and avoid becoming victims. If someone online quickly forms a romantic connection, avoids video calls, and begins requesting money for emergencies, it is important to be extremely cautious. I strongly recommend verifying identities and never sending money to someone you have only met online.
