A few days ago, I came across a newly created Facebook profile. The account appeared very recent, with a creation date of March 2, and it immediately raised some concerns. The profile was almost empty — there were only two photos uploaded, and both looked highly polished, almost like official or professional images. There was no personal information available, and most of the details were hidden from public view. There were no meaningful posts, no interactions, and no visible history that would indicate a genuine person behind the account.

The images on the profile showed a person wearing military-style gear, including a helmet, sunglasses, and what appeared to be communication equipment. At first glance, the photos might seem convincing, especially to someone who may associate such imagery with authority, trust, or respect. However, upon closer inspection, the lack of supporting content on the profile made it clear that something was not right. It felt staged and incomplete — like a shell account created for a specific purpose rather than a real individual sharing their life.

Shortly after noticing the profile, I became aware that this account was being used to reach out to people, likely with the intention of building trust quickly and then asking for money or personal information. This experience has reinforced for me how sophisticated and widespread online scams have become. Scammers are constantly adapting their methods, using emotional triggers and convincing visuals to manipulate people. Awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have to fight against this.
