844-392-5596 - Fake Virus Alert Scam - The Fake Virus Alert Scam is a form of tech-support fraud that manipulates victims by displaying alarming pop-ups or messages claiming their device is infected with a virus. In some cases, these alerts may masquerade as coming from a trusted brand, like Microsoft, Apple, or a major antivirus company. The alert typically urges victims to call a "support" hotline for immediate assistance. Once connected, scammers pretend to be technicians and persuade victims to grant remote access to their devices, allowing them to install malware, steal personal data, or charge for unnecessary services. To avoid falling victim, users should recognize that legitimate companies do not send unsolicited virus warnings or ask for remote access. Closing suspicious pop-ups and using reputable antivirus software for scans are crucial steps to staying safe.
