Claiming to live only a few towns away can make Justin Silverwood appear safer and easier to verify. The profile reportedly contacted someone through Facebook Dating and presented itself as a local match. Friendly conversation may quickly develop into romantic interest and promises of meeting in person. A fake local identity can lower suspicion because the victim expects that a real meeting should be easy to arrange. If the scammer is challenged to meet, repeated cancellations or sudden emergencies may begin. The account may claim work problems, travel issues, illness, or transportation difficulties. Eventually, money may be requested to solve one of these supposed obstacles.
