855-399-1001 - Pop-up Scam - Pop-up scams are a deceptive tactic employed by cybercriminals to trick users into believing their devices are infected with malware or that they've encountered a security threat. These scams typically manifest as intrusive pop-up messages or alerts that appear while browsing the internet, claiming to be from legitimate organizations such as tech support companies or antivirus software providers. The pop-ups often display alarming messages warning of viruses, system errors, or unauthorized access to personal information, prompting users to take immediate action. This action usually involves clicking on a link, downloading malicious software, or contacting a fake support hotline where scammers may attempt to gain remote access to the victim's device or extract sensitive information. To protect against pop-up scams, users should remain skeptical of unsolicited pop-up messages, avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unknown software, and utilize reputable antivirus software with built-in pop-up blockers. Additionally, closing the browser or restarting the device can help remove intrusive pop-ups, while maintaining awareness of common scam tactics can prevent falling victim to these deceptive schemes.
