818-732-0556 - Windows Popup Scam - The Windows Popup Scam is a common online fraud where scammers deploy fake pop-up alerts mimicking legitimate Windows system notifications to deceive users. These pop-ups typically appear suddenly while browsing the web, claiming that the user's computer is infected with a virus or experiencing critical issues that require immediate attention. The alerts often include alarming language and sometimes an audio message urging the user to call a toll-free number for technical support. If the user calls, they are connected to scammers posing as Microsoft technicians who then request remote access to the computer. Once granted, they may install malware, steal personal information, or demand payment for fake services. To avoid falling victim to this scam, users should be cautious of unexpected pop-ups, avoid calling numbers provided in these alerts, and seek assistance directly through official Microsoft support channels.
