Online Purchase Scam Report

Description :

I bought a 1967 Mustang GT500E from Hawkeye Classic Auto Sales (https://hawkeyeclassic.com/). The sales person was a purported Frank Miller. On September 4th 2024, I completed the “domestic funds transfer” form at Umpqua Bank at 390 SW Century Drive. The banker that facilitated the wire transfer was Micah Katka. On September 5th 2024, the funds ($39,400.00) was wired to Express Local Motors, LLC 627 Indian Hills Drive Ottumwa, Iowa 52501 Bank of America account # 291040159801 routing # 026009593 reference # HK-564287. The vehicle was supposed to be delivered September 14, 2024. The sales agent (Frank Miller ph# 641-670-4703) and the driver (“Terry” ph# 641-649-4176) no longer answer my calls. Umpqua Bank will try to reverse the wire transfer, but told me it is probably too late and to file a report with the Bend Police Department and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The banker at Umpqua Bank - Micah Katka who initially facilitated the wire transfer of funds on September 4, 2024 and then actually was able to contact “Frank Miller” on September 16, 2024 while attempting to reverse the wire. My cell phone number was blocked, so he called from the bank phone. Frank Miller was very evasive and said the driver would call in 10 minutes, which never happened. He felt that I was a victim of a scam at that point and facilitated a phone call with the Umpqua Bank fraud department.
