Whitaker Wright
Whitaker Wright is an English fraudster from the 1890s who swindled a lot of money through his stock and bonds company. Wright dropped his position as a Methodist preacher in his early days and sought after adventure and fun; so he ended up in London stock exchange which had everything he wanted. He established a bonds and brokerage firm 'London and Globe Company' with Marquess of Dufferin and Ava,the former viceroy of India as chairman; which in turn made his firm more trustable and famous.
“He dealt with mining companies, especially from Australia, Canada and Britain. He called his stocks as 'consol' which meant the most trustable stocks in the exchange”. He pushed bonds on every direction and amassed a huge wealth; and with that he planned to enter the public severity for the sake of knighthood. His schemes went smoothly until his investments in the Waterloo railways crippled his stocks and exposed his frauds and Larceny. He believed that his bad deeds will be avoided by his status, but he was prosecuted by one of the best prosecutor at that time and was found guilty. He committed suicide in the trial room and ended his life which was considered shameless.
