The message said the recipient was selected as a second-place winner for $3,500,000 and a brand new Mercedes Benz because they were a past or current Publishers Clearing House customer. The caller instructed the recipient to press 1 to speak with an agent and to write down claims number O11OUS before calling the claims agent at (681) 229-4134. This type of scam is designed to make victims believe they have won a large cash prize and luxury vehicle from a well-known sweepstakes brand. Scammers often use congratulatory messages, fake claims numbers, official-sounding agent names, and vehicle prizes to make the call appear legitimate. Once the victim calls 681-229-4134, the scammer may claim that taxes, delivery fees, insurance charges, registration fees, processing costs, or government clearance payments must be paid before the prize can be released. They may request payment by gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, prepaid cards, payment apps, or bank deposits. The scammer may also ask for personal details such as full name, address, date of birth, banking information, Social Security number, or identification documents. Legitimate PCH winners are not required to pay random callers to claim a prize.
