Websites fighting Casting Call Scam:

1. Fake Casting Calls
The show may not exist and your audition tapes will go nowhere. At best, you are out a small amount of cash. At worst, you gave personal information to scammer, who can use that to open bank accounts and credit cards in your name.

2. Scambusters
The possibility of taking part in reality-type shows ? such as Project Runway and cooking or baking contests, which draw on the public rather than professionals for participants ? adds further scam opportunities.

3. Avoiding Scams
Scams have been a part of this industry for as long as anyone can remember. Although the "dance" may change, the "song" remains the same. It would be impossible to describe or list every questionable, unprofessional scam out there waiting. At the conclusion of this article, we will provide links to various other resource websites to get you started.

4. Acting Scams
If you are an aspiring actor or actress, you need to be aware of a casting call scam. Scammers are creating fake audition notices to trick performers people into paying to try out for parts that don't exist.

5. Casting Notices
Never go alone. Never agree to pay anyone anything for auditions or jobs. You should not be asked to pay to audition for an acting or extra job...EVER! The Production Company or individual is to pay you for your work. In some instances extra work may not pay, but that will be mentioned in the posting. If anything ever seems questionable ask questions before signing up to do the work.

6. News Article
This is not as widespread as some other scams, but it seems to have really been on the increase in recent years, thanks to the popularity of television talent shows like "American Idol" and "Project Runway." Scammers pose as agents or talent scouts looking for actors, singers, models, reality show contestants, etc., and use phony audition notices to fool aspiring performers into paying to try out for parts that don't exist.

7. EIPA Scams
If an EIPA member has a problem with a casting agency that they consider to be illegitimate, or a casting call that appears to be suspicious, EIPA members are encouraged to report suspicious behavior so that EIPA can investigate.

8. Internet Archieve
Scammers pose as casting agents for hit television shows. They either offer acting lessons or photography sessions to help the aspiring actor or charge fees for fake applications and casting calls.

9. Scams to Avoid
It can simply be an unscrupulous way to sell acting lessons, photography services, etc., or it can be an outright scam for things like fees for online "applications" or upcoming "casting calls." Even worse, the information provided on an online application could be everything a scammer needs for identity theft.

10. Crime Stoppers
Main examples include casting or model agencies who promise to launch your career quickly and earn you lots of money, usually starting with an initial consultation which will require cash up front. The fraudsters will give reasons for this such as, set up fees and research costs but the promised career will never materialize.

11. Hard-Earned Money
For those struggling to get a break, these meetings may seem to be the way to get that long-sought meeting with the big guys, the chance to be seen by casting agents, to work with directors, to be spotted by managers and agents. Sadly, most of them turn out to be a waste of time and money, if not an outright scam calculated to separate you from your hard-earned money."

12. Sweepstakes Scam
TV show like "American Idol" and "Project Runway" has inspired scammers to pose as talent scouts or agents seeking actors, singers, models, reality show contestants, etc. It can be a way to sell acting lessons, photo services or solicit fees for online applications or upcoming "casting calls." And everything on the application can be used for identity theft.
