{"id":647,"date":"2010-11-23T05:09:42","date_gmt":"2010-11-23T05:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/blog\/?p=647"},"modified":"2023-02-01T13:55:25","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T13:55:25","slug":"twelve-scams-of-christmas-mcafee-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/blog\/email-scam\/twelve-scams-of-christmas-mcafee-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Twelve scams of Christmas: McAfee Warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is most likely no bad time of the year to be the <strong><a title=\"Victim\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/scam-victim.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">victim<\/a><\/strong> of offense.<\/p>\n<p><strong>McAfee<\/strong> last week released a list of the majority common <strong><a title=\"Scam Types\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/scamtypes.php\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">cyber scams<\/a><\/strong> as a warning to those trusting online to shop, book travel and hunt for bargains during the wild holiday season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Where the <strong>&#8220;12 scams of Christmas&#8221;<\/strong> are out there year around tiring holiday times offer <strong><a title=\"Scammers List\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/newscammers-list.php\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">cyber scammers<\/a><\/strong> with further opportunities, said <strong>Jim Galpin<\/strong>, manager of <strong>Canadian consumer sales for McAfee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Following are the most popular cyber scams McAfee says consumers should be aware to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Offers of free iPads to customers who buy other products by giving their credit card numbers.<\/li>\n<li>Distress mails claiming to come from a friend or family member who is demanding money be wired or transferred so they can get home.<\/li>\n<li>Offers of free gift cards online that needs answering questions and giving personal information.<\/li>\n<li>Offers of high-paying, <strong><a title=\"Work at Home Scam\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/homescams.php\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">work-at-home jobs<\/a><\/strong> that entail giving specified private information, such as a social insurance numbers.<\/li>\n<li>A new type of <a title=\"Phishing Scam\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/phishing-scam.php\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>phishing<\/strong><\/a>, by which the receiver gets a text message that, is allegedly from their bank or a retailer saying something is erroneous with their account and asking them to confirm personal information. No bank or trustworthy retailer will do this.<\/li>\n<li>Fake holiday rentals ask down payments by <strong><a title=\"Credit Card Fraud\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ripandscam.com\/credit-card-fraud.php\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">credit card<\/a><\/strong> or wire transfer.<\/li>\n<li>Email offers of low-interest loans and credit cards for a processing fee.<\/li>\n<li>E-cards from anonymous senders, who could be incorporating viruses or malware. Delete them without opening it.
